WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by 3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will display an image of the item upgrader mod at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current Item level Upgrade level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader for a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade item. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and that each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing content at the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade items process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
