World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all of its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a measure of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done by using the level of the item.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full description of the Item upgrader Kit, as well as its level. You can also find it by hovering over an item upgrader kit and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the item level calculation is done. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

However, this isn't the only factor which can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then boosted by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges just like the other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item upgrader mod will include at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more useful in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the existing Luck of an item, up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
